About Us
Our History
There were one hundred and twenty-two charter members.
The church's name was decided by a vote of the congregation.
names were submitted and then a vote was taken of all the
congregation. From the names submitted, the majority voted
on Liberty Baptist Church, thus the group at the "Y" became
known as Liberty Baptist Church.
Services met at the YWCA for 10 months and on January
26, 1989 the property at 112 Walnut Hill Road, Bristol,
Tennessee was purchased. Our first service at this location
was held on Sunday morning, January 29, 1989 with one
hundred and sixty-four people present.
Our Future
In recent years, Liberty has experienced tremendous
numerical and spiritual growth. Our membership has grown to
well over 600 people. Sunday morning worship attendance has
almost doubled since 2002.
In 2004, Liberty purchased an adjoining lot and duplex for
future expansion. By God's grace, that expansion came
quickly. In 2005, the church entered a capital campaign
called "Moving in the Direction of Faith."
The members pledged over $1.3 million toward a new 485-seat
sanctuary. Ground was broken in June 2005, and the new
facility was under construction. Our first worship service
was Easter Sunday, April 2006, with over 530 people present
(standing room only). Since then, God has abundantly blessed
our congregation with many visitors and new members.
The future is bright for Liberty as we continue to "Reach
People for Christ and Train them to Serve Him." Liberty is a
church on a mission. We are not standing still. We refuse to
coast. By the Lord's help, we will keep on serving,
worshipping, witnessing, preaching, teaching, training,
giving, and growing until Jesus comes. May He find us
faithful when He comes.
